To get good search rankings, you need to have good relevant inbound links to your site. The tried and true method is to contact other webmasters with similar sites and ask to do a link exchange between both sites.
This can be a benefit to both sites if both have a similar page ranking and have similar traffic stats. The problem is that most sites with good traffic do not want to exchange links with new sites or sites that have little content, or worse yet, can be a competitor.
There is software available to make link exchanging easier. My favorite is Link Machine. This easy to use program will allow you to exchange links automatically with other link machine users or let you search for sites by category or keyword.
Link exchanging does not get any easier than this. Any site I have used it on has at least three keywords that will show up in the top ten of the three major search engines. I also use IBP for site optimization.
